Winter Formal is February 7th at Hangar 21 in Anaheim. The theme is first class, aligned with the venue, and all grades are welcome to attend. Winter Formal is at the perfect time in the semester because it allows CdM students to take a much-needed break from the stress of second-semester classes. Girls at CdM often wear midi or mini dresses, and guys wear typical suits. Winter Formal is considered to be more formal than the BOTB dance but less formal than Prom. For girls, Winter Formal is a great excuse to get nails and hair done, and some girls either fake tan or get a spray tan since the summer tan has officially faded for most. Junior Michelle Waldron shared how she gets ready: “I get my nails done, and I self-tan. I like to do my own hair because it is cheaper, and I haven’t decided whether to give myself a blowout or curl my hair.” Formal is unique because it is a girl ask guy dance, so this time the girls get to be creative with a fun poster. Popular poster choices include relating one’s date’s sport in the poster or their favorite candy. Waldron plans on asking her boyfriend with a poster that is calculus-themed because they are in calculus together!
A great way to make the night unforgettable is to go all out before and after the dance. Having a big group with a party bus is always a fun way to start having fun before even arriving at the dance. After the dance, a lot of students like to stop at fast food restaurants such as In-N-Out, McDonalds, and Taco Bell. Brooke Hahne, another junior, shares why she loves formal, “It’s super fun, and it’s an easy way to bond with everyone at CdM, and I look forward to it every year.”
Tickets for Formal are available to purchase online or at the ASB store, and make sure to turn in a permission slip. Don’t miss out, buy a ticket!
