The dreadful stretch from ski week to spring break is almost over, and CdM couldn’t be more excited. From a week of fun partying in Mexico to a week of long-needed rest, it seems like CdM has already packed the bags and is already in a state of break. Where is everyone going for spring break?
Every year, it seems like everyone ends up in Cabo for spring break. With its stunning beaches, vibrant nightlife, and luxurious resorts, it is the go-to destination for students looking to take a break from everyday life and have fun. From lounging on the beaches to exploring the city, there is never a dull moment; there is something for everyone. During the day, people soak up the sun on boats or have a fun swim in the ocean, while nights are filled with fun adventures with friends. It is always a sign that CdM students went on spring break when Instagram feeds are filled with Cabo vacation albums, with endless sunset pictures, selfies by the pool, and group photos at Mango Deck. Whether it is for the beaches, the parties, or just the fact that everyone else is going, Cabo has solidified itself as the top spring break destination for students at CdMHS.
But Cabo is not the only beach destination students are going to this year. A wave of students also go to Hawaii each year for a more relaxed but equally exciting getaway. Whether it is Oahu, Maui, or the Big Island, Hawaii offers the perfect mix of adventure and chill vibes. Days are spent surfing at Waikiki Beach, hiking up Diamond Head, or snorkeling in crystal clear waters at Hanauma Bay. For those looking to fully immerse themselves in the island lifestyle, sunset luaus and shaved ice from Matsumoto’s are always favorites of students vacationing in Hawaii. Unlike the fast paced party scene of Cabo, Hawaii’s appeal lies more in its natural beauty and laid back atmosphere, making it the perfect destination for students who want a break that is both refreshing and unforgettable. Senior Kaitlin Prendergast is flying to “Oahu this break with my family. [She is] really excited to go to the beach, tan, and just relax after being stressed from school and college applications for so long”.
While most students flock to beach destinations, some take a different approach to spring break. National parks and reconnecting with nature offers a refreshing change of pace from the usual tropical escapes. Whether it is coming under the stars, hiking through Yosemite, or more, these trips provide a chance to unplug and recharge. Senior Audrey Long is opting to take this route for her final spring break in high school. She is planning to “go to Zion with some of [her] friends. [They] are going to hike a lot, relax, and just have fun”. Students who choose this option can spend their days exploring scenic traits, spotting wildlife, and enjoying the peacefulness of being in nature. Though not as popular, these trips are just as memorable, offering adventure, relaxation, and a break from the usual spring break scene.
Coachella kicks off its first week of the festival on the second Friday of spring break. The renowned music festival flocks tens of thousands of attendees, and it’s no surprise that CdM will be in attendance. Senior Gabby Sosa, who is going to Coachella W1, says, “I bought these tickets all the way back in November, and I am through the roof excited. I can’t wait for this weekend getaway of endless fun and good music in the desert. This is my 3rd Coachella, and it’s a great weekend every time… I’m so excited to see Charli XCX and Zedd!” Coachella is an experience that keeps on attracting loyal customers year after year. With a stressful senior year almost coming to close, and the anticipation building up for over 5 months, Sosa is through the roof excited on heading to Coachella this upcoming week.
Looks like CdM has got a booked and busy week for spring break! Whether it’s a zen trip to Zion or a week spent partying in Cabo, the one thing we all have in common is that we’ll be enjoying our much-needed break from school. Make sure to post the photos!
