The Newport Beach Film Festival returned this fall, October 16-23, with an impressive lineup of films, filmmakers, and unforgettable moments. From powerful documentaries to laugh-out-loud comedies, this year’s event proved why it’s one of Orange County’s most anticipated arts celebrations.
This year’s festival showcased a diverse mix of storytelling, featuring centerpiece films, international spotlights, and student projects that captured voices from across the globe. Audiences could explore everything from emotional dramas and inspiring true stories to visually stunning animations. With screenings held at theaters throughout Newport Beach and Q&A sessions with directors and producers, the event offered a unique behind-the-scenes look at the world of filmmaking.
Beyond the screens, the festival buzzed with excitement. Crowds gathered along the red carpet to see famous actors like Noah Schnapp, Jacob Elordi, and Lee Byung-hun.
Yvonne Ngo, a freshman at CdM, attended the Newport Beach festival on the 16th and 19th, at Big Newport and Fashion Island. Ngo’s favorite part of the festival was, “Seeing Noah Schnapp was my favorite part of the festival because he really engaged with his fans. For example, he actually went to touch us, hug us, and wave us goodbye.” She described the theater as the feeling of “being at a Hollywood movie premiere interview.” She finished the interview by saying she would definitely recommend going and will be attending next year.
Layla Mesch, another freshman at CdM, attended the Newport Beach festival with Yvonne Ngo on the 16th, at Big Newport. Mesch’s favorite part of the festival was seeing Jacob Elordi: “It was my favorite experience because I got to find out how much taller he is in person. It’s truly a different experience listening to him talk.” Both Ngo and Mesch agreed that their reason for attending the festival was to see some famous actors and try to understand the work behind the scenes.
As the lights dimmed and the final credits rolled, the Newport Beach Film Festival left a lasting impression on everyone who attended. From world-class films to once-in-a-lifetime celebrity encounters, the event brought Hollywood energy to the coast, leaving audiences already looking forward to next year’s screenings.
