Southern California is known for having nice weather, but these past couple of weeks have surprised many. Temperatures keep climbing, and it is starting to feel like summer in early March. To some, the heat is extreme, but for many students, it’s just another reason to be at the beach.
One reason people like the heat is that it makes it easier to spend time outside. After the week of heavy rain in February, people can spend more time at the beach, with friends, or just relaxing in the sun. It is also noticeable that it affects students’ moods too. Bryar Boynton, 12th grade, said: “I love going to L Street with my friends. It’s my favorite spot to go to”.
The heat also makes people more active. People are more likely to go outside and exercise. Olivia Corbin, 11th grade, said: “I think that it definitely makes me feel happier and in a better mood. It makes me feel more active too”. It definitely seems like the warm weather has had a positive effect on students.
Although the heat can feel intense, many have found ways to adapt. Cold drinks, air conditioning, and cooling off in the water can help make the heat feel more manageable. Caden Bennett, 11th grade, said: “My favorite way to cool off is to go to the pool and eat frozen peaches. It’s like a healthy popsicle”. For many, the benefits of the sunny weather outweigh the downsides.
