Tate McRae has entered a new era, and her latest album is quickly becoming a worldwide sensation. With the release of her new album, So Close To What, the Canadian singer-songwriter headed off first in Mexico City on March 18th to start her new Miss Possessive tour. The songs she has made reflect on her hard work and dedication to music, as well as how her life has come to be. Her raw talent and confidence have been key to the dynamic she brings onto stage between her and her dancers, making her concerts one of the “must-sees” for 2025.
Talking with students at CDM has made it clear how sensational she was, specifically at the Kia Forum on Friday, 26th September, and Saturday, 27th September. Berlin McCoy (11) attended the first night at the Kia Forum, and her first thoughts after finding out she would be seeing Tate were that she was speechless. She loved Tate’s music and couldn’t wait to see her live. She stated that her favourite song that McRae wrote was Tit for Tat, as it was the first time Tate had performed it live, and it brought excitement to the whole crowd in general, making the atmosphere even better than before. Three words that Berlin would use to describe Tate’s concert are talented, astounding, and energetic. She expressed how talented Tate and her dancers were, how exhilarating the set and pyrotechnics were, and how the crowd responded to Tate: “the audience full of people screaming at the top of their lungs.” Berlin closed by telling me how sad she was about the concert being over, but she was happy that she made so many memories. She was glad of how many videos she had taken, and said, “If I want to see her again, all I can do is just look in my camera roll”.
Ava Batram (10) was another lucky student who saw Tate on her second night in LA. She felt incredibly excited to be able to go, and was even happier as she was surprised with the tickets. Ava told me her favourite song was also Tit for Tat, due to it being the second time it was played live, but also because of the choreography, visuals, and the tempo and lyrics of the song. Ava used three words to describe the show: energetic, exciting, and emotional. She felt as though the energy was very high during the performance, due to most of her songs being upbeat, and the dances were very much in hip hop. It had been exciting for her because she had been listening to Tate for a long time, so finally being able to go to her concert was a dream come true. Lastly, she found it emotional because many of the songs were so meaningful to her, “especially Rubberband and Siren Sounds”. Ava now feels extremely sad due to the concert being over, and she sincerely wishes she could go again, but she feels incredibly grateful that she was able to go in the first place.
Overall, both students’ experiences show how exciting and involving Tate’s concerts have been, proving the perfect atmosphere and great exhilaration for her audience. Tate is still currently touring North America and finishes her tour on November 8th, where she does, in fact, finish at the Kia Forum for her third and final night there. This promises excitement to come back for every Tate fan in LA.
