The Corona Del Mar Sea Queens had a huge win over the San Clemente Tritons to advance into round three of CIF lacrosse. The girls’ lacrosse team has worked tirelessly since August to succeed, and with their 13-win and 4-loss record, they continue to prove themselves every gameday. The team played San Clemente earlier in their season and narrowly won by just one point, so upon entering round two, the girls knew they would have their work cut out for them. After spending a week analyzing film, practicing smarter, not harder, and dedicating hours to practice, Corona del Mar beat San Clemente 9-4.
A notable performance from the game was low attacker Kayla Torgelson, who had four assists, which greatly helped the team secure the win. Torgelson, who has been playing for the varsity lacrosse team for two years now, shared the team game plan, “[we] like to talk to each other to make sure we are all on the same page…we also made sure that every time that we fed or passed a ball that it was a really good pass and not just making a dumb pass.” The importance of controlling the ball and ensuring that everyone stays calm, cool, and collected is the key to having success on the lacrosse field. Goalie Sofia Petek also had some key saves, which helped keep the momentum high for CdM.
The Sea Queens win allowed them to advance to the quarter finals of CIF. They will take on Murietta Mesa on Thursday, May 7th, in the Cage. Don’t miss it!
