This season in New York City, a whole lot has happened. From extreme weather conditions to various celebrity sightings, winter in the Big Apple is still bustling. But for those who are nerdy enough to understand: Broadway has an award-winning extravaganza up its sleeve. From top shows like Chess to Maybe Happy Ending, the Broadway streets are jam-packed full of theatre-lovers. However, there is one big success that the theatre world can’t stop raving about. Hadestown has always been a favorite modern musical ever since its official Broadway debut in 2019. Actors from all over dream about starring in the captivating story of Orpheus and Eurydice, but very few are actually given the chance. This season, however, accelerated the show into a new obsession for the fandom and brought in many more fans as a new cast stepped into the roles, setting the stage for an incredible season. The main draw? Jack Wolfe.
Jack Wolfe is a British actor and singer who is best known for playing Wylan Van Eck in season 2 of Shadow and Bone, the Netflix series, and for playing Gabe in the West End’s production of the musical Next to Normal. Before his fame in Next to Normal, Wolfe was a well-kept secret that fans cherished on screen as Wylan in Shadow and Bone. With his British accent and shy, charming persona, he melted the fans’ hearts, but then he grew into the role of Gabe in Next to Normal and shocked theatre and Shadow and Bone fans all over the world with his undeniable talent and voice. Before Next to Normal, his fans had never really had the opportunity to hear him sing, but as soon as it was his time to shine on that stage, he blew the world away with his gentle yet passionate singing voice. The most notable Jack Wolfe song from Next to Normal is “I’m Alive”; ask any theater nerd they will start belting out all of those notes with Wolfe’s voice in the back of their mind. After his time as Gabe in Next to Normal ended, he auditioned and was cast as Orpheus in Hadestown. No one could believe it. Hadestown had found the perfect Orpheus. From the moment he sang his first “Wedding Song” in Hadestown, the Broadway fandom was out of their minds, excited about their new Orpheus. “I am always so impressed by Jack Wolfe. He played Gabe in Next to Normal, which is one of my favorite shows and a show I am actually in the process of putting on at CdM. It’s his performance and passion that really made this show one of my favorites and something I want to recreate. Jack Wolfe is always so in tune with his character, like it’s another version of himself, and never fails to enthrall the audience into deep emotion whenever he performs” Firoozi ’26. Wolfe began as Orpheus in Hadestown on September 2nd, 2025, and will end on March 1st, 2026. So many people are disappointed they weren’t able to see him in the short time he was a part of the cast, but a lot of people are grateful they did have the opportunity to see Wolfe perform. One of those people who had the incredible opportunity is Berlin McCoy ’27, who saw Hadestown over ski week in New York on the drama trip. Her cousin was able to get them tickets, and so she was lucky enough to be allowed to split from the group to go see Hadestown the second-to-last week of Jack Wolfe as Orpheus. “Jack Wolfe was truly a wonder to behold as Orpheus. I went specifically to see him and was truly amazed by the embodiment of his character and the joy he possessed playing this role. I am so sad he is leaving the show so soon, but I am eternally grateful for the opportunity to see this incredible moment on Broadway.” Overall, it is universally understood that something about Jack Wolfe’s performance and captivating skills as an actor and singer make him one of the most talented Broadway actors this season. And throughout the theater/Broadway community, many agree that Jack Wolfe is the best Orpheus to ever cross the stage. So many people are not ready to let this talented Orpheus go, but there are rumors that he might be in the Broadway version of Next to Normal. Fingers crossed! Until then: keep rewatching Shadow and Bone season 2 and savor the few pro-shots of this season’s Hadestown cast with the amazingly talented Jack Wolfe.
