Spring sports are in full swing at CdM, and everyone’s more excited than ever. From baseball and softball to boys volleyball, they’re all gearing up for one mission: having a great season.
First is Girls’ Softball. The Sea Queens have just begun practices and haven’t started their season, but are still excited and dialed in more than ever before. Sophomore Lexi Hagmann, a third baseman, says her biggest goal for the season is to “improve her personal skills, as well as get to know her teammates better.” Freshman Morgan Pham, a shortstop and pitcher, describes the team’s chemistry as “very good, the vibes are definitely great, everyone’s laughing and just having a genuinely enjoyable time.” For Pham, she’s excited to be on the Sea Queens to compete against higher levels, knowing she’ll have to be more focused and put in more work.
Next Up, Boys’ Volleyball. Recently, tryouts were held, and teams were introduced. Known to be a good team player, freshman Tomas Melvin-Torres, a middle blocker, describes his team as “really good, I think we have experience playing with each other, and we have a lot of fun.” This year, he looks forward to “building relationships with his teammates and hopefully a good, full season.”
Finally, Boys Baseball. The Sea Kings’ season is also about to start, and Freshmen Mason Anderson, along with Jason Trinh, are thrilled to begin their legacies. Anderson, a catcher and utility player, and Trinh, a first and third baseman, and a pitcher, both agree this team is different than any other, with feelings of more belonging, “We’re playing for our school and not like a normal club team. Hopefully it’ll be a fun time playing for CdM,” Anderson commented. Trinh has personal goals for this season, consisting of pitching well and hitting home runs. Anderson wants to beat Newport Harbor in this year’s Battle of the Bay.
As the spring season of sports at CdM approaches, make sure to attend Kings Krew games and always show Sea King pride. Good luck, everyone. Let’s make our community proud.
