Neon Night is one of the most anticipated football games of the year, and this season’s opener lived up to the hype. With it being the first home game, the first league game against Rancho Verde High School, and the first chance to set the tone for the season, the energy was undeniable. The student section was packed all the way to the top bleachers, creating a loud and spirited atmosphere.
From kickoff, the pressure was on. Starter kicker Joey Dibella set the tone with the opening kick. He explained the intensity leading up to the game. “There’s a lot of pressure that goes into these games, but I feel like I’ve got my composure down. The same goes for the rest of the team. We’ve been working way harder this season compared to last year, we’re definitely stronger. Working for nine months straight is going to pay off”.
But the night wasn’t just about the players. At halftime, the CdM Pep Squad, Color Guard, Drumline, and Orchesis kept the crowd energized with an entertaining performance. Varsity cheerleader Thalia Wenck emphasized the importance of school spirit, “I feel like I can see how the team gets more excited and pumped when the crowd brings the energy. It’s important because that energy reflects onto them”.
On the field, CdM delivered a dominant performance, securing an earned 41 to 6 victory. Star players like JJ Haley and Brady Annett contributed big plays and touchdowns to keep CdM comfortably ahead. “Our team had good and consistent defense and offense throughout the game. We dominated Rancho, and I think this means very good and positive things for this season”, says Dibella, reflecting on the team’s success, “especially for our next match heading to Santa Barbara. Hopefully we’ll continue to dominate”.
With such a strong start, CdM’s first home game win sets the stage for an exciting season. This victory was just the beginning, and fans can look forward to many more thrilling moments from the Seakings this year.
