The 83rd annual Golden Globes was held on January 11th, 2026, honoring the brilliance in 2025 American film and television productions. Several changes were incorporated into the Golden Globes this year to improve their reputation, including the addition of 400 new international voters to add voter diversity and introducing the new Best Podcast award. Nikki Glaser also returned as the host, with many viewers believing she bested her performance last year with her quick quips surrounding notable celebrities to more political issues, such as stars and the redactions featured in the Jeffrey Epstein files.
This year, the Golden Globes saw a variety of political statements, as several celebrities voiced their opinions about the recent ICE raids, more specifically, Renee Good’s case, by wearing a pin that read “ICE Out” or “Be Good.” Actor Mark Ruffalo, in particular, had thoughts about the current climate, explaining, “I’m not feeling so great. We have a woman, Renee Good, was murdered in the streets of America today… As much as I love all this, I don’t know if I can pretend like this crazy stuff isn’t happening.” Alongside Ruffalo were Ariana Grande, Natasha Lyonne, Jean Smart, and Wanda Sykes, who all wore pins at the event.
Regarding the awards themselves, “One Battle After Another” (film) and “Adolescence” (TV) tied, each winning four awards. Actress Teyana Taylor won Best Supporting Actress in “One Battle After Another” and delivered a speech that inspired and nearly moved the entire room to tears. “To my brown sisters and little brown girls watching tonight, our softness is not a liability,” Taylor said, adding, “Our voices matter, and our dreams deserve space.” Similarly, Kim Eun-jae (Ejae) delivered an emotional speech about her journey and how rejection redirected her path, leading her to success while accepting the Best Original Song in a Motion Picture for “Kpop Demon Hunters”’s “Golden.” Another highlight for many was the co-stars of the hit Canadian show, Heated Rivalry, Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams, announcing the Best TV Supporting Actress award. However, some might have been disappointed to find out that they were no longer sitting next to Charli XCX.
The 2026 Golden Globes brought some of Hollywood’s most influential together, handing out awards while also kicking off the Oscar award season.
