Taking the stage in their usual glamorous fashion, Corona del Mar’s Orchesis dance company dropped jaws, brought tears to eyes, and easily captured the attention of those who attended the showcase. Putting on a remarkable performance for three straight nights, the Orchesis dancers displayed their countless hours of hard work and practice in their rhythmic, graceful, and passionate choreography.
The annual orchesis dance show is a highly anticipated event amongst CdM students. The orchesis dancers started practicing for the showcase in the month of September and their flawless performances are a reflection of their months of hard work. Alongside the female dancers, the hand selected members of the iconic brochesis team do a dance with the orchesis members, providing a bit of amusement, entertainment, and comedy. Many of the performances are choreographed by Orchesis’s own members, making them that much more impressive because it shows that the girls have both the ability to create and dance to their own unique choreography.
When speaking to one of the orchesis dancers herself, Kimia Arana explains how this year’s showcase was gratifying for her, “This show was rewarding for me because as a senior, this was my fourth year and I really realized that all my hard work and dedication I had put in over the years paid off.” Arana also shared how this showcase was extra meaningful for her because she got to perform with her sister, Leili Arana, who is a freshman on the team. Sophomore, Ava Rakunas, who has been on orchesis for two years now, expresses how this years orchesis show was particularly special; “This year, i’m extremely bonded with all the girls on my team which is really fun because I get to do what I love with the people I love.”
The Orchesis dance showcase was a remarkable display of how Corona del Mar students can use their skills, creativity, and determination to put on an incredible show. It’s clear that the Orchesis girls dedication and drive for what they’re passionate about will continue on for many years to come.
