As the first semester of senior year comes to a close for the class of 2024, they have already completed one of CdM’s many special events to commemorate their final year; taking the senior picture is a huge milestone. Held this year on the sand volleyball courts after second period, the majority of the senior class gathered together to be photographed. There were smiles all around as this joyous moment was captured.
This photo, which will be prominently displayed in the yearbook, acts as not only a time capsule, but also a reminder of how far these students have come together. Many students will surely appreciate this tradition when looking back through their yearbooks in a few years time. The smiling faces and laughter among friends is forever encapsulated. Yearbook student and junior Milana Marion also feels that this photo is important to be able to “compare to years ago and see the style differences of students and even the background of the school.” She divulges that the editing process is “pretty fun” for the yearbook staff as “Mrs. Jones has the photo up on the projector and [they] go through and point out any middle fingers that [they] see in the photo.” The staff then either erase said finger or turn it into a peace sign.
Many seniors were excited to finally take part in the photo, and many felt a sense of pride as the beginning of the end of their time at CdM was marked. One such student, senior Claire Smith, feels that it’s “a good tradition since it brought together the seniors.” She thought it was a fun experience, and states that “it’s important for the yearbook to represent the senior class all together.”
In all, high school is a vital time for milestones, growth, and memories. Taking the senior picture truly marks the end of an era for so many students. Congratulations to the senior class for coming so far!
