Newport Beach is home to 86,738 permanent residents and welcomes up to 100,000 during the summer months. Newport’s newest additions to the Fashion Island area are expected to raise the 20,000 to 100,000 estimated tourists flooding into the up and coming beach town daily. The affluence of the surrounding neighborhoods and steady tourism has allowed for ventures to grow the city with new restaurants and businesses that are coming to Newport and look like they’re here to stay.
Specifically, in the Fashion Island Newport Center area, two new attractions have been the talk of the town. With the past opening of the VEA hotel, a new name arrived just across the street as what was formerly known as the Island Hotel, underwent a major renovation and reopened as Pendry. The hotel, which opened on September 27th, boasts numerous features and amenities such as a renovated pool, a new restaurant, and a greater variety of rooms for guests to choose from. Newport Beach resident Amir Bagheri, a recent guest of the Pendry, described how “The property was absolutely gorgeous, full of countless new amenities. I was really impressed with the renovations that were done, and the restaurant dining area was one of the most scenic dining arrangements I have visited, with the oak floors and tall trees. I highly recommend people to visit the hotel, or recommend their family members to stay there.” Steven Yang, a 10th-grade student at CdM, too was “impressed with the interior and exterior design of the hotel, and hope to visit when I am next near Fashion Island.”
Yang shared, “I enjoy keeping up with local Orange County news and saw a story describing the new hotel.” There have been numerous stories popping up as Irvine Company continues to announce several additions to the area. Despite the recent completion of two large hotels in the near vicinity, Newport can expect yet another exciting project: the upcoming condominiums built under the Ritz-Carlton Residences which are expected to be located just across from the shopping center. Details on their competition are yet to be revealed but it is expected to be a 22 story residency and constructed from 159 of VEA’s very own hotel rooms. The Pendry, like VEA, has already hosted Fashion Islands store managers for their annual holiday sales meeting . It was there that the news of the improvements to the Fashion Island and its surrounding locations was shared.
In addition to Pendry’s, JOEY Newport Beach, an upscale restaurant featuring a wide variety of cuisines, has been thriving in Fashion Island. Yang mentioned “When I was recently going to Fashion Island, I saw the restaurant and was eager to try it. My family and I visited and were delighted with their service and the delicious food being served. The ambiance of the restaurant was also noteworthy. The outdoor dining area was awesome, and the steak I had was delicious. I highly recommend people to try out the restaurant.” Coming soon, JOEY will be seated next to Ocean 48, a fine dining steakhouse headed by brothers Jeff and Michael Mastro (sons of Mastros owner Dennis Mastro) as an addition to the dining options at Fashion Island.
The next time you are near Fashion Island, check out these new additions and stay tuned for the developments to come in Newport Beach.
