The Stanley Parable: Game Review
The Stanley Parable is a video game unlike any other I have played. Developed in 2011 by developer Davey Wrenden, the game has achieved critical praise, with a nine out of ten rating on both Steam and Polygon. Originally released as a free modification for Half Life 2, the game is now a standalone game on PC, with a console release planned for this year. Wrenden created the game after thinking about how most video games confine the player to its rules, and he envisioned a game in which that was not the case. The gameplay and mechanics are simple. It is single player, first person, and allows some interaction with the environment by the player. Based on your decisions, the game can go in numerous different ways and is meant to be played over and over again. The game is largely driven by the commentary of the narrator, who can act as either your enemy or your friend. It is experimental and thought-provoking, providing commentary on what a video game is supposed to be. I personally loved this game because of how unique it is. If you do play this game, I would highly recommend playing it without looking at any play-throughs or previews in order to fully experience the game.
