Inclusion is about creating a community where everyone feels valued, respected, and supported, regardless of their differences. At Corona del Mar High School, Inclusion Week serves as a time to recognize the importance of embracing diversity and fostering a sense of belonging for all students. From the inspirational videos to the games in the quad, the core message remains the same – building a school culture rooted in empathy, acceptance, and understanding. By coming together to celebrate inclusion, students have the opportunity to reflect on what it means to create a more welcoming and supportive environment for everyone.
This year ASB had a packed week planned. From promotional videos on Trident TV to personalized sticky notes with uplifting messages left on cars, ASB aimed to reach as much of the student body as possible. Ending the week, the inclusion carnival on Friday was a highlight for many students. Held at lunch in the quad, it was hard to miss as students exited their classrooms. One such student, senior Connor Krost was “pleasantly surprised to see all the excitement and fun tables in the quad.” He feels that the carnival was the perfect end to “such an important week with such a good message.”
ASB senior Meghan de Marinis sees “the goal behind inclusion week to be promoting kindness, acceptance, and unity within our school community ensuring that everyone feels valued and included.” Her highlight of the week was planning the carnival; “I helped taste test and workshop the churros, and just felt like the whole planning process was such a wholesome experience that I was excited for the whole school to experience.” Inclusion is more than just acknowledging differences – it is about actively creating a space where everyone feels seen and supported. Whether it is through simple acts of kindness, standing up for others, or fostering open conversations, small actions can have a big impact. When students make the effort to listen, understand, and appreciate different perspectives, they contribute to a stronger, more connected school community. Inclusion Week serves as a reminder that by embracing diversity and practicing empathy, our campus can continue to be a place where all students feel a sense of belonging.
Even though Inclusion Week at CdMHS has come to an end, its message remains more important than ever. Inclusion is not just about a single week of activities – it is about the everyday actions that create a more welcoming and supportive community. By embracing diversity, showing empathy, and uplifting one another, students can continue to foster a school environment where everyone feels valued and heard. The impact of Inclusion Week doesn’t end here—it serves as a reminder that even small efforts can make a big difference in ensuring that all students feel a true sense of belonging.
