What to Expect When Getting the Covid-19 Vaccine

Now that many people are starting to get the vaccine, it is important to know what to expect when getting it. The majority of people who get the Pfizer vaccine have had less side effects than those getting the Moderna vaccine. The first dose of the vaccine is less strong than the second dose, which is why when getting the first dose, the side effects are less intense. The side effects of the vaccine are similar to the side effects of getting the coronavirus. Depending on which vaccine you get, the side effects of the first dose generally include: fatigue, weakness, headaches, fever, chills, and soreness in the arm where the shot was injected. The side effects of the second dose are the same as the first dose but can be more intense.

When Cdm Sophomore Ava Manly’s grandfather, Dr. Ali Kaviani, was asked how he feels about getting the vaccine and what it felt like he says, “I was happy that I was getting the vaccine. For the first shot I was a little bit concerned about the side effects, but I didn’t have any. I was happy that I would be protected from corona to some extent. After the second dose, I was more confident that I am pretty much protected against corona.”

Even once someone gets the vaccine it is important to still take safety precautions, like wearing a mask and keeping distance from other people because the vaccinated people can still transmit the virus. When someone gets the vaccine it is important to support that person by being there for them and helping them get better quickly. Some things to help someone recover faster are: bring them soup, give them gatorade to replace lost electrolytes, make sure there are blankets and tissues available, give them space, and just be there for them when they need it.
