On February 4th in the big gym, Corona del Mar High School hosted senior night for its Varsity Girls’ basketball team. Seniors Tori Gyselaar and Sophie Beador were recognized for their commitment, leadership, and overall dedication to the Corona del Mar’s basketball team throughout high school. Corona Del Mar played against the Los Alamitos Griffins in an exciting and fast-paced game. Although the Griffins got out to an early lead, the Sea Queens were easily able to come back and were leading by the end of the first quarter.

The score ended with a 62-41 win for CdM, with points scored by Makena Tomlinson, Trasara Alexander, Nia Halafuka, Tori Gyselaar, and several other players. The Sea Queens played aggressively, managing to dominate the court, and also successfully make almost all free throws.
The crowd was enthralled by the game and the cheers and chants were audible throughout the gym. Performances by the cheer team helped to excite the crowd and entertain them during half time. Corona del Mar’s King’s Krew was also very alive and active, supporting the basketball team and making the atmosphere even more energetic and exciting. Senior Phoebe Alva said that “The CdM basketball game may have been the most glorious moment of my life. I felt a rush of pure adrenaline every time Tori Gyselaar #11 scored a hoop, the hair rose from my very neck. The crowd was alive with excitement and delight as CdM repeatedly snatched the ball.”
Seniors Tori Gyselaar and Sophie Beador have been great assets to their team and the basketball game in their honor was well deserved. They are both incredible leaders both on and off the court, and their contributions have been truly immeasurable. The Varsity Girls team will miss them next year, but they both have bright and exciting futures ahead, with Beador going to Baylor University and Gyselaar going to Boise State University.
