Living History Project

Living+History+Project

Lauren von Aspen, Journalist

These past few weeks, the sophomores of CdM High School have been taking part in the grade-wide Living History Project. For this project, the sophomores attend an interview with a veteran and then write a reflection about their experience. It is a great opportunity to learn more about the men and women of the military who put their lives on the line to defend us and our country. Veterans interviewed served in wars such as the Vietnam War and the Gulf War, among others. It was enlightening experience to speak with the veteran I interviewed, a marine who served one your during the Vietnam War. I learned all about his life before, during, and after the war and learned how important the Marines are to him. This comes at a perfect time, too, as on Monday, May 27, we celebrated Memorial Day, a day in which we remember those who died while serving in the United States armed forces. Memorial day and the Living History Project are important as they allow us to remember the men and women who have fought and died for the ideals of this county we call our home.
