Last Friday, Corona del Mar High School’s ASB hosted their annual spring rally, themed Clash of the Classes. The rally, much like last year’s rally was a competition that pitted all the grade levels of CdM against each other, from the freshmen to the seniors. The points for each of the classes were determined through a week full of fun games or activities in the quad, dressing up for spirit days during the week, and enthusiasm or spirit expressed throughout the entire duration of the rally. During the rally, there were numerous opportunities for students to gain more points for their classes, from winning games to the panel of judges rating which grade level won for that particular performance.

The rally was hosted by two of ASB’s most spirited rally commissioners, with each MC representative of one of the four high school classes. This year’s rally, in collaboration with the Class of the Classes theme, was centered around vintage arcade games. The freshmen’s theme was Street Fighter, the sophomore’s theme was Sonic the Hedgehog, the junior’s theme was Pac-man, and the senior’s theme was Mario Kart. Each of the MCs staged their rally costumes around this theme.

As usual, the rally featured performances from CdM’s Sparkle team, Cheer and Song, and Orchesis, with each of the classes dressed up in different costumes. Once each performance ended, the panel of judges, including Mr. Kennedy, Miss Ball, Mr. Captan and Miss Burgess, would choose the grade level with the most spirit during each performance. Depending on who won, points would be added accordingly to the total score for each class projected on the screen.

Additionally, this rally featured a very fun and entertaining game for students to witness. This game pitted the freshmen against the sophomores and the juniors against the seniors, which were played by selected athletes or students from each grade level. This game was not only entertaining for the audience, but it was also very funny to watch. The rules were simple- while running in a giant inflatable ball, kick the soccer ball into the goal of your team.

At the end of the rally, the winner was deemed the sophomore class. Contrary to the usual results of each year’s Clash of the Classes rally, the senior class did not win. Second place was given to the freshmen, third to the juniors, and last but certainly not least, the seniors.
