This past week March 28-30, CdM’s drama department presented their newest production, The Drowsy Chaperone.  The play was a musical, as well as a comedy. The music was written by Lisa Lambert and Grey Morrison, and the book was written by Bob Martin and Don Mckellar.  The CdM theatre department is known for their talent on the stage, and their recent play lived up to the high expectations. The student’s put months of practice and work into their costumes, sets, and lighting. Their continuous hard work showed in the outstanding final result. From opening night to closing night, the students put forth all their talent and love for drama on the stage.

The Drowsy Chaperone, is a homage to American musicals in the Jazz age and CdM’s drama department took on the classical musical with their own creative direction. Rather than sticking to the original script, the musical was narrated by senior, Tristan Neal, who played an old man with an immense amount of love for the arts. He described his experience after the play and explained how happy he was to end on such a good not with his senior year play.

The audience was filled with the actors’ parents and friends, who greeted them with many hugs, flowers, and posters after their performance. The play kept its audience laughing with its many jokes and its characters complete investment in their roles.

Seth Trachtman, a sophomore a part of the productions ensemble stated, “I love getting to be a part of such a tight knit family. It is so amazing to see all our hard work come together during these three nights where we get to perform for people who came just to see us do what we love.” The cast was very proud with their performance and they look forward to the future plays during the rest of the school year.
