Over the past weekend, the Newport Aquatic Center send their junior rowing teams to a regatta in Sacramento. The race was very exclusive; only three teams in all of California participated, including Marin, NAC, and Capital.
NAC sent their four teams, boys varsity, boys novices, girls varsity, and girls novices. Each team took a separate bus, and prepared for the high level race. Their goal from the race was to see how much they had improved since the regatta two weeks prior, when the NAC sent teams to the Faultline Faceoff and competed against the same teams along with 18 others.  The race took place in Oakland, and the NAC crews were happy with their results. However, there knew there was still room for improvement, and this race in Sacramento was a great way to see how far they have come.
At Sacramento, the girls varsity eight finished third, the lightweights were second, and the jv were fourth. Their times improved since the Oakland race and they are happy about the work the have put in ot get to this place. For the novice girls team, the A boat finished second. They shaved off thirty seconds from the Faultline Faceoff where they placed third. The freshman eight boat placed first, and the freshman four also placed first. The novice boys’ eight boat placed first, as well as their four person boat. Overall, the NAC  was proud of their success among all teams. The rowing club is hopeful that everyone will improve for the more important races to come in the next few months, as the season comes to a close.
Sophomore Ashley Zeiper, a member of the girls novice team said, “I’m really glad we came to this regatta because now we know how much we need to improve before regionals. We have already improved a lot, but we need to keep getting better if we want to get first.”
