It’s out with the old and in with the new when it comes to the transition from winter to spring. While everyone is in the process of putting their ski jackets in the back of their closets and busting out the short sleeves, here are a few things to look forward to during this upcoming spring.
Number one is the flowers. Spring is the time of year where the flowers come out in full force. With all of the rain this year, the super bloom is incredible and is starting to cause problems for residents of Lake Elsinore with all of the traffic caused by onlookers. With the rolling hills filled with poppies and other native florals, not many can resist stopping to stare. These traffic-inducing fields are definitely something worth going to look at, just make sure to do research to find good times in the day and week to go.
The next item is the produce. Not many of us think about seasonal fruits and vegetables since Southern California’s weather gives us access to most of these throughout the entire year, but Spring does in fact have its benefits on our food. The rain and sunshine provide perfect conditions for the favorites such as strawberries, cherries, pineapples, avocado, lettuce, and artichoke to grow. In the next few months, almost all foods involving produce will taste better and be fresher in general.
Number three is the sports. Although spring starts near the end of March, the final games in March Madness are being played. This is perhaps the most exciting part of the event, and is where people get to see whose bracket was the most accurate. At CdM in a few science classes, March Mammal Madness is being played and students cross their fingers and hope that their animals win their fights as they follow along. With spring also comes CdM baseball, lacrosse, boys tennis and volleyball, swimming, golf, softball, and track and field season. Whether you attend all of these events or just a few, the Sea Kings are going to have a great spring sports season.
