Momo

Momo

About one year ago, Momo was introduced to the social media world. It went away for a while, but just recently she came back on multiple social media platforms scarier than ever. Momo is a creepy doll-like, fantasy character that is responsible for sending graphic images and messages to young children while watching Peppa Pig and other videos on YouTube. In recent accounts kids have said that Momo shows up on the screen and gives them morbid instructions, such as committing suicide or leaving gas burners on in the house without their parents knowing. Also, she has sent messages to kids about harming others by stabbing them or hurting themselves through self-harm. On some occasions, Momo askes the kids to call or text the number that is on the screen and send her pictures of the finished task and if they don’t do it she threatens them with the fact that their families will be cursed or they will be harmed by Momo. This has become known as the “Momo Challenge.”

With many concerns about child safety, many celebrities and parents around the world like Kim Kardashian are pleading for YouTube to stop the doll popping up on screens and also Kim is requesting that other parents monitor what their kids are watching.

They do not know the motive behind the scary demon girl, but officials think it is because hackers are trying to steal information. They believe it is hackers who are trying to make younger kids do horrible tasks.

So far, there have been no deaths from the Momo Challenge this year. Last year there was one report of a 12-year old girl who reportedly killed herself after becoming motivated by the challenge. Also, there were two reported deaths in India of kids that participated in the challenge as well.

Hopefully, Momo will stop showing up on screens and threatening to harm children if they do not do her task.
