First Track Meet of 2019

On Saturday, February 9th, a select few members of CdM runners participated in the Erin Joyce/Angel Alvarez All-comers meet located at El Toro High School. The meet was nearly cancelled due to the severe rain that was taking place throughout the whole morning. The starting time was around 8:30 am, and by then the track was already beginning to flood. Many participants left early, however the runners who braved through the rain got to see where they stand in terms of placing and their events.

This meet was used as a placeholder for the coaches and athletes to determine where they stand in terms of their physical abilities and timing. The results obtained from this event are used by the coaches to map out a training plan for the runners and how they can improve their techniques and times for the upcoming season.

As the rain poured over the event, parents, coaches and students alike were intrigued to see how the meet was going to end, along with the results. All runners did great considering the harsh and unexpected weather conditions that occured. In some races, there were as little as five runners racing at a time.

However, this was a good opportunity for both the athletes and coaches as a preset to the season and can be seen as a way of getting into the hang of the many meets to occur over the next couple of months.
