The Start of Track Season

Zoe Deralas, Journalist

The cross country season has been over for months now, and off season training for the sport is known as track. Therefore all cross country runners have begun their transition into a different mode in comparison to running long distances in competitions. The newer runners who joined the track team consist of those who are participating in the sport to do while their other sports seasons have finished, and others who tried out for fun.

The schedule for the upcoming season has been released on the Sea King Running Website and consists of many meets taking place in March, April and May. All track meets are away competitions as none of them are held at CdM. There is quite a wide variety of events that are suited for each athlete, whether they are frosh-soph, J.V., or varsity.

There are students participating in all events, a few popular ones acknowledged as the long jump, hurdles, the 100m, the 200m and others. Usually, a distance of 400m and under is considered a sprint and can be described as short distance events. It depends on the training of the athlete, due to the fact that a sprint can be interpreted differently by every runner. The longer distance events include the 800m, 1600m and 2400m, along with a few others.

As everyone is looking forward to a successful track season, the hard work put into training by the runners will be displayed at the meets to come in the near future.
