Girls Water Polo Match vs Foothill

On Friday, December 14, the CdM girls water polo team lost a close game against Foothill High School.  The sea queens started out the season strong, with five consecutive wins. They battled throughout the game versus Foothill, but ended with their first loss of the season. Although they didn’t finish with success, the team put forth their best in the 6-7 point loss.
During the game CdM’s Layne Anzaldo scored one goal, Sophie wallace with two, Carter Britt with two, and Grace Myers with one. Another key player to the team is junior, Maya Avital who is the team’s goalie and as Myers stated,”the backbone of the team.”
With the teams center committed to UCLA, the team has great players in each position. The teams strengths lay in their speed and ability to challenge each others strengths and weaknesses.
Following the game Myers stated, “Our team fought really hard and I think we did pretty well, but Foothill had a better defense that held us back. Our team is so close and I know we will work hard to gain the next win. I love being able to see our hard work from practice come together during games, even our losses.”
After losses like the game against Foothill, the team trains harder and works on the weak points that brought them down during their first loss of the season. While the team is not the biggest, their commitment and positivity keeps them going.
Having lost to Foothill last year in CIF, there’s no doubt the girls will take the loss as motivation to train and strengthen the team for its following games. Despite the game being their first loss, the girls will not let it hold them back from excelling in the rest of their season.
