Streaming services, now more than ever, have completely taken over the world. Major entertainment businesses have placed their bets onto streaming entertainment, enabling the people access to titles on end. It is guaranteed that the most popular show of the moment will most likely be on exclusively on a top streaming service. More recently on the rise is HBO Max, an HBO platform that produces several original series and has bought the rights to popular content across other platforms as well. Their titles are more often than not regarded as critically acclaimed, seldom producing programs that are anything short of pleasing on the eyes and addicting to the soul. CdM junior Kimia Malkami and HBO fanatic tells all about the best content to be watching right now on HBO Max.

“HBO was a vanguard of the television industry and their shows are consistently regarded as some of the greatest of all time.” she says. “Big Little Lies and Sharp Objects are both amazing book adaptations that brought in a lot of awards and portray complex female characters like I’ve never seen before.” Kimia continues about two of the biggest series as of late. Big Little Lies, a 2017 drama starring actresses like Zoe Kravitz, Meryl Streep, and Nicole Kidman has fairly high ratings. With a whopping 89% on Rotten Tomatoes, the series has also won awards such as the Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Limited Series, and the TCA Award for Outstanding Achievement in Movies or Miniseries, as well as several on several individual awards for their cast. Sharp Objects, with its astronomic rotten tomatoes score of 92% is also incredibly critically acclaimed, actresses Amy Adams and Patricia Clarkson winning two awards each in 2019. “My favorite HBO program however would have to be Succession. It is my favorite show point blank and its satirical nature and black comedy mixed with a dramatic plot, amazing writing, and stunningly complex characters put it above and beyond.” she adds. Succession, starring crowd favorites such as Kieran Culkin and Nicholas Braun, is another 92% Rotten Tomatoes and top rated satire, the Primetime Emmy Award winner for Outstanding Drama Series as well as the Golden Globe Award winner for Best Television Series in the drama category in 2020.
