With another CIF win, the CDM girl’s tennis team finished their season strong. This was their 10th CIF (California Interscholastic Federation) win. On Friday, the Sea Queens defeated Marlborough High School 11 to 7 in the Division 1 final, at The Claremont Club.

In the CIF finals, the girl’s doubles really carried the team. The doubles team of Junior Alden Mulroy and Junior Tori Varela won two of their three sets. One of the other doubles team, of Sophomore Jane Paulson and Junior Reece Kenerson, won all three of their sets, crushing their opponents. Senior Ashley Thomas and Freshman Cate Montgomery also won all three of their sets. Montgomery reflected on her first year on the varsity team saying, “I would say my favorite part of the season was the CIF final at the Claremont Club. Our whole team worked very hard the entire season in practice and in matches, it was a really cool experience to see all of our hard work pay off and end our season with the title. My teammates definitely made the season super fun. We all got really close and I couldn’t have asked for better teammates!”

All of the Sea Queens had an unforgettable experience at the CIF finals. Sophomore Irasema Loredo said “My favorite part of the season was probably CIF and I think the team bonding and the cheering and support makes the team fun so be on!” The girls who played singles gave it their all and fought very hard. Junior Hannah Jervis won two of her three sets. Sophomore Kristina Veskovic won one out of her three sets and had an incredible battle. Senior Cate Wood played very well despite her loss. Overall, the girl’s varsity tennis did an excellent job at CIF. Our girl’s tennis team showed what a fabulous job CdM can do. Coach Jamie Gresh can now add another award to the tennis shed.
