On January 10, 2019, the Corona del Mar girl’s wrestling team competed in a dual meet at Beckman. Four Orange County teams, including Corona del Mar, Beckman, and Portola joined forces to dual the Santa Ana girl’s team. While informal, the dual meet was a great chance for all of the girls to practice and prepare for the upcoming CIF qualifiers.

The Corona del Mar girls competing were Kiersten Muse, Bella Walsh, Lauren von Aspen, Josclyn Virrey, and Angelina Garcia. Each girl had one or two matches against a girl from Santa Ana or one of the Irvine schools. The team overall did well, with Kiersten Muse winning both of her matches and Lauren von Aspen winning one.

All of the girls on the Corona del Mar team and all of Orange County are preparing for the CIF qualifiers in early February. Qualifiers will take place in El Toro. In order to move on, the girls must place top six out of about twenty girls in their weight class.

The Dual Meet was exciting and many great things are expected from the girls team in the future. In fact, just this past week, wrestler Kiersten Muse was named the OC Register’s female athlete of the week in addition to being one of the top seeded girls in the CIF Masters Tournament. Watch out for upcoming events for both the boy’s and girl’s wrestling teams.
